Race format

HYROX Houston is the standard 8 × 1km runs + 8 stations, set inside one of NRG Center's exhibit halls. The hall depth gives Houston the longest individual run leg on the US calendar. Runners often clip 3-5% off training pace at equivalent RPE.

Station strategy: Houston-specific

NRG's HVAC keeps the hall comfortable, but Houston's high outdoor humidity changes the indoor dew point. Pacing notes:

  • Grip on sled-pull rope: indoor humidity sticks to the rope after the morning waves. Chalk early, chalk often. Late waves see the slickest rope.
  • Run pace: the longer run leg rewards even pacing. Resist the urge to surge between stations 3 and 4. The burpee broad jump will tax glycogen if you push.
  • Wall ball aim: NRG's lighting is bright but the targets sit deeper into the hall. Depth perception takes 2-3 reps to calibrate. Build a rhythm before counting reps.
