Race format

HYROX Dallas runs the standard global format: 8 × 1km runs through a serpentine indoor track, paired with 8 fixed workout stations. The Kay Bailey Hutchison hall is wide enough that the run loop sits closer to a true 1km circuit than tighter European venues. Splits often come in 2-3% faster than Stuttgart or Manchester for similar effort.

The eight stations, in order:

  1. SkiErg A vertical ergometer simulating cross-country ski double-poling. Station 1: 1,000m for all divisions. → Full entry on hybridathlete.guide : 1,000m
  2. sled push Athlete pushes a weighted sled across an indoor track. Station 2: 50m total (4 × 12.5m) at division-specific weight. → Full entry on hybridathlete.guide : 50m
  3. sled pull Hand-over-hand rope pull dragging a weighted sled toward the athlete. Station 3: 50m total (4 × 12.5m) at division-specific weight. → Full entry on hybridathlete.guide : 50m
  4. burpee broad jump A burpee combined with a forward broad jump, repeated to cover 80m. Station 4. Heart-rate spike point of the race. → Full entry on hybridathlete.guide : 80m
  5. RowErg A horizontal Concept2 rowing ergometer. Station 5: 1,000m for all divisions. → Full entry on hybridathlete.guide : 1,000m
  6. farmer's carry A two-handed loaded carry with kettlebells. Station 6: 200m at division weight (32kg/hand for Pro Men). → Full entry on hybridathlete.guide : 200m
  7. sandbag lunge Walking lunges with a sandbag on the upper back. Station 7: 100m. Quad-burner; rear knee must touch each rep. → Full entry on hybridathlete.guide : 100m
  8. wall ball Front squat into vertical throw at a target on the wall. Station 8: 75 (women) or 100 (men) reps. The most-feared station. → Full entry on hybridathlete.guide : 75-100 reps
Train for it

Aim to begin a race-specific 12-week block once your Dallas date is confirmed. Texas heat is irrelevant indoors. Train the engine, not heat tolerance.

Station strategy: Dallas-specific

The convention-centre floor is unusually flat with grippy carpet across the run lanes. Pacing notes:

  • Sled push surface: Dallas's sled track is one of the faster surfaces on the calendar. Don't burn quads in the first two reps trying to maintain speed. The floor will let you cruise.
  • Run-leg pacing: the wider hall means fewer turns and less braking. Expect to clip 5-10s/km off your training pace at the same RPE.
  • Hydration: hall A/C is set cold but the run produces dry-air respiratory fatigue. Sip every loop. Don't wait for thirst.
